Please note that our office is currently unable to welcome visitors due to ongoing construction. Thank you for your understanding.
Passengers share a ride with others traveling in the same general direction. Shared ride transportation is not exclusive taxi service, so trips may take longer than riding in a private automobile. As you are sharing a ride with others, our driver may arrive 15 minutes before or up to 30 minutes after your scheduled pick up time. We may need to ask you to adjust your appointment times to ensure on-time arrival for everyone.
Yes. While only senior citizens age 65 and older are entitled to the 15% fares, anyone from the general public may request a shared ride. Please call our administrative office to find out if you qualify for any other transportation subsidies.
For example, if you have an 11:00 a.m. doctor's appointment, we will generally schedule a pick-up time of 10:00 a.m. Our goal is to get you to your appointment on time, so we ask that you be ready to be picked up by 9:45 a.m. and your vehicle will arrive sometime between 9:45 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., allowing enough travel time to deliver you to your appointment on schedule. (We might schedule the pick-up time a bit earlier if the distance to your appointment is very long, as is sometimes the case for people going to specialty doctors at distant hospitals in Philadelphia.) This "window" assures that we can deliver you to your appointment on time and that we can schedule other people to be picked up during that window as well, who may live nearby and/or are going in the same direction as you.
Community Transit schedulers will schedule your ride as a "will call for pick up". Simply ask your physician's receptionist to contact Community Transit Dispatch when you are ready. Please understand that it will take a little bit of time to get a driver to you. All Community Transit drivers are equipped with radios, so we will contact an available driver who is nearest to you to pick you up.
Community Transit encourages passengers to make appointments or plan trips which allow us to make the most efficient use of our resources. We transport large groups of passengers to and from programs such as Adult Day Care Centers, Senior Centers and Dialysis Units during our peak hours. We recommend that our passengers schedule individual appointments so that their pick up and return times occur during the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. We do understand that while it may sometimes be necessary to schedule an appointment at an earlier or later time, it may not always be possible for Community Transit to provide the transportation. We will always try to accommodate this request, but may not be successful, especially in situations where the customer is not near a program where a driver may become available at about 9:30 a.m., or if the distance to the appointment is greater than usual - i.e., outside Delaware County, or from one end of Delaware County to the other. We want to always be honest with our customers and tell them if we think we are going to have trouble getting a passenger to their destination on time.
Yes, we can transport you to the airport if we are able to arrange a shared ride heading in that general direction. Please note, however that, due to the unpredictability of flight schedules, we cannot provide you with a return trip.
Yes, you may bring along a companion to escort you. When you call to schedule your trip, you must inform the Customer Service Representative that a companion will be traveling with you, so that a seat may be reserved for them. The fare for an is escort is a minimum of $5.00 per one-way trip within Delaware County; $10.00 per one-way trip into or out of surrounding counties; or the client co-pay, whichever is higher.
